Spotted on the F train this morning: a woman with headphones poking through her tote bag, pulling out various cassette tapes, many hand-labeled, “CBS Mystery Theater.” She finally settled on a Simon and Garfunkel tape, which she then inserted into her first-generation Sony Walkman.
Know this: I hate driving.
Once in a while, however, the right music mix makes the ride quite lovely. This morning featured just such a mix, made from a combination of a CD and an assortment of Detroit radio stations.
Enjoy:
As you can imagine, this was the perfect start to my day.
Hey, thanks eMusic! I think you rock too!
Any suggestions for all these songs I now get to download? Looking for new music, please. Kind of in a pop-ish mood lately. Not like Britney Spears pop-ish though; more like Lykke Li pop-ish.
Also, does anyone know how to pronounce “Lykke Li”? According to Wikipedia, the Swedish pronunciation is “ˈlʏkə li,” but as Swedish phonetics is not so much my forte, I’m lost.
Thank you and thank you.
This song is so good. Like bounce-around, bob-your-head (you might even shake your ass a little) good. It’ll get stuck in your ears and you’ll want to hear it again and again.
Or maybe not. Maybe you’ll hate it. Whatever.
The Very Best featuring Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend): Warm Heart of Africa (link to Hype Machine, because it’s occurred to me it’s probably not so legal for me to host songs here)
More Coeur de Pirate
Actually the same song, but here’s the vid (with no embedding allowed, apparently). I’m obsessed.
Couer de Pirate, “Comme des enfants”
(Heart of a Pirate, “Like Children”)
So pretty. Love this song. I’m listening to it on repeat, even though my French sucks and I can only understand a few lines. Oh well; maybe the words aren’t so important anyway.
Note to self: Must make the effort to relearn French one of these days. Otherwise what a waste of a degree…

(Sunny Day Real Estate, “In Circles”)
Sunny Day Real Estate have reunited and are touring. Apparently I’m a little late on the uptake on this one, but whatever. It’s still awesome.

MGMT, “Kids”
Whoa. Drugs, anyone?
Song in my head: Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, “You Really Got a Hold on Me”
Is it wrong that warm weather makes me want to listen to bad pop music?
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Gold Lion (via universalmusicgroup)
Listen to this, too.
Ann Peebles - I Can’t Stand the Rain (via 19urban72)
Listen.
